Claire Matthes

Parliamentary candidate for Farnham & Bordon

I’m delighted to be standing as the Green Party candidate for Farnham and Bordon. I’ve been a town councillor in my home town of Haslemere since 2019 and welcome this opportunity to represent The Green Party. A Haslemere resident for over 20 years, I previously lived in Whitehill, where my daughter attended Woodlea Primary School and where I was Committee Secretary at Alexandra Preschool, my son’s nursery.

My background is in family support and Early Years Education and I worked for 10 years at the Tennyson’s Sure Start Children’s Centre in Haslemere until 2019 when the centre was closed. The withdrawal of this valuable support service, alongside numerous other cuts, was one of the galvanising forces that drove me to get involved in local politics.

I am passionate about community projects that improve life for both residents and our environment. Having been involved in setting up and running local covid response initiatives to leading the establishment of the Water Rangers Haslemere Hub, I take action and aim to make a discernible difference. I am proud to say I am a Water Ranger and tackle my concerns by being actively involved with the regular water quality testing programme.

I would like to see the country move towards a cleaner, greener, more sustainable way of life and conducting business, one that is fairer, kinder and helps protect the natural world and its limited resources for us and for wildlife, for now and for the future.
